About John Heimann
Did I grow up wanting to be a content creator, corporate marketing leader and consultant? Does anyone?
I wanted to be a disc jockey from the time my dad took me to downtown Indianapolis when I was a kid and we stood in front of the window on the street where an am radio Wolfman Jack look-alike was spinning discs and mesmerizing me with his smooth patter.
Fast forward a dozen years and a chance meeting with a friend at Indiana University led to an interview with the program director at 97 WBWB radio which led to me landing my dream gig. My first real marketing job was as promotion director at the same midwest radio station. I learned a lot about what audience’s found appealing as well as the value of using data to confirm hypothesis. I later added program director to my resume which offered a broader understanding of corporate goals and marketing needs in addition to managing the team of announcers.
From behind the mic, I went behind the camera when I founded J.B. Heimann Productions. As writer, director and producer of television, corporate and direct to video programming, I honed my storytelling skills. Much of my work was centered on motorsports (remember, I grew up in Indy!) and that led to an opportunity with Vintage Motorsport Magazine. In addition to feature articles, I wrote the “My Favorite Race” series that highlighted the careers of racing greats such as Mario Andretti, Richard Petty, Bobby and Al Unser, Mark Martin and many others.
I’d had my dream job and fulfilled so many other aspects of my career during my producing and writing years that when a friend approached me about a marketing opportunity with a high tech company that was just too good to pass up, I decided it was time to finally become that corporate marketing leader I’d been putting off.
Now I’m experienced enough to be called seasoned. All in all, my corporate work includes leadership roles in tech (Alcatel/Lucent), bio-tech (Amgen) and, most recently, 16 years in the healthcare carrier/payor space (Anthem and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona).
